#ChardonnayDay, Yay!

What a great day the YB Digital team had when we joined in the international celebration Chardonnay Day. Not only did we salute one of our personal favourite wine varietals, but we promoted the extraordinary scope of Chardonnays produced by the member wineries of our client, Paarl Wine Route.

Paarl Wine Route represents about 30 wineries in the eponymous region of the South African Winelands. Their members include some of the oldest and most innovative wineries and wine brands in the country.

When we put forward the idea of a #ChardonnayDay Twitter tour to highlight some of the region’s most storied Chardonnays, we got immediate and enthusiastic reaction. The wineries that prepared special tasting experiences for us ran the gamut from some the most exclusive boutique cellars and generations old family wineries to some of SA’s major producer-owned wineries and the most powerful local and international wine brands.

The result was not only a lot of fun and the discovery of some great new Chardonnays on our doorstep, but what looks to be a very successful brand awareness campaign for Paarl Wine Route.

At 6.30 pm local time the #ChardonnayDay tag had been used in about 1500 tweets, internationally and had been displayed in more than 13 million timelines, according to a report generated with www.hashtracking.com. In SA it had trended on Twitter for a couple of hours, reaching the nr. 2 spot at 12.25 pm.

At that time @Paarlwineroute and @YehbabyCT were number 3 and 4 respectively on the list of accounts that used the #tag the most. We were the only South African accounts in the top 10.
